Choosing leather
A practical guide to grain, temper, thickness and natural variation.
Start with the object, not the colour
Choose the structure your project needs first. Soft leathers drape and turn cleanly; firmer leathers hold a defined shape. Thickness affects both feel and how easily an edge can be folded or skived.
Grain and variation
Natural leather is not a uniform industrial sheet. Grain, shade and surface character can vary across a hide. Our product notes identify the finish and likely variation so you can plan panels intelligently.
Splitting
Selected leathers can be split to a requested thickness at no extra charge. The achievable tolerance depends on the leather and equipment; check the product details or ask before ordering.
